In March of 2021, during a routine mammogram, I was diagnosed with dense breast tissue. I was told to have another one in 6 months just to be safe. The new mammogram showed nothing but dense breast tissue. Dr. West at Lakeside    knew that my sister Kim had undergone a double mastectomy, 2 years nearly to the day, in 2021. She decided to do first one, then many biopsies that day, in between additional mammograms. She never gave up.

Nobody wants to answer the phone when they're waiting for that call. Two days later, the Dr told me I had stage 3 cancer in my left breast's lymph system. The only time I  cried was then, and it I was just a single tear. I became a warrior to fight this during chemo, radiation, and multiple surgeries. Today I am still at stage 3, but I am stable. I am loved, and I am grateful.

My breast cancer journey started in 2004. After a mastectomy, reconstruction, and chemo, I moved forward with my life thinking "that was that, now let's move on".

Now I realize how much I missed during the following 18 years. In 2022, I was diagnosed with a second breast cancer, this time HER2+ and metastatic, which had spread to my lymph nodes.

I was lucky to meet an incredible group of women who have become close friends. We stay in touch through phone calls, texts, and regular outings. We share a bond that is truly unique in that we always have someone to talk to who has had a similar experience. We inspire and motivate each other, sharing tips, ideas, and knowledge about everything from products that can ease symptoms to healthy eating to realizing it's okay to cry, and how important it is to laugh. This kind of support and encouragement is as we each navigate treatment and medication options, the side effects they can cause, and every day responsibilities.

Cancer Girls allows us to give back to those on their journey who may need some additional assistance at a time when everything can seem overwhelming. It is also an opportunity to connect with our communities and increase awareness at the various events where we sell our products.
